Christmas Party Is Canceled

 

As the snowstorm rages and the temperature plummets, we just made the difficult decision to cancel the Ligonier Valley Christmas party.

​

Due to the road conditions and the bitter cold, we are canceling LVW’s annual holiday party Sunday, December 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. Michael’s of the Valley Episcopal Church in Rector.

​

We’re discussing rescheduling the party for after Christmas. Let’s make it a winter writers’ get-together.

​

Some possibilities we’re considering:

·        LVW has an already scheduled Google tutorial on Saturday, January 10, at noon at Hoss’s in Greensburg. The private room is reserved. We could do the party, readings, and raffle starting around 2:00, though rather than a potluck, people would order food from the Hoss’s menu.

​

·        Sunday, January 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. Michael’s of the Valley Episcopal Church in Rector: the usual potluck, readings, and raffle.

​

·        Sunday, January 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. at St. Michael’s of the Valley Episcopal Church in Rector: the usual potluck, readings, and raffle.

We’re sorry to cancel, but we didn’t want anyone risking life and limb (or fingers and nose) to get to our party during the first big snowstorm of the year.

 

Ligonier Valley Writers Calendar 2026

January.  Dues are due for 2026. $30 per year; you can download a membership application from LVWonline.org.

​

January.  Call for Student Poetry Contest entries for students in grades 4-12. Cash prizes in 30 categories, no entry fee, and an awards ceremony and booklet of all the winning poems. Download contest rules and entry forms from LVWonline.org.

​

January 23. Loyalhanna Review submissions begin. Guidelines and deadlines are changing. Check LVWonline.org for the updates in January.

​

March 11. Deadline for Student Poetry Contest entries from students in grades 4-12.

​

April 15. Call for entries for LVW’s 20th annual Flash Fiction Contest. Three cash prizes plus three Honorable Mentions, no entry fee, editing by a professional editor, readings of the six winning stories during the Halloween season, and publication at LVW's website. Deadline is August 15.

​

April 26, 4:00-5:00 pm. Student Poetry Awards Ceremony. The winning poets in grades 4-12 will read their work to the audience

.

July (Date TBA), 7:00-9:00 p.m. Loyalhanna Review publication party. Enjoy readings, hors d’oeuvres, and camaraderie.
