Ligonier Valley Writers’ 28th annual Student Poetry Contest for poets in grades 4 through 12 is now open to submissions. Cash prizes will be awarded at all grade levels in different forms of poetry, from haiku to free verse to rhymed forms. Students, teachers, and parents can get entry forms and contest rules by clicking the download button below. Homeschoolers are welcome.

If you're a kid who likes to write, give it a try. You can win up to $20 for your poem. The deadline for submitting your writing is March 20, 2019.

The awards ceremony for the winners of the Student Poetry Contest will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Barnes & Noble (5155 Route 30, Greensburg, PA 15658) at 4:00 p.m.

Thirty cash awards will be handed out (first, second, and third prizes in each of nine categories, plus McGough Awards for three poems, the best of the best in each age group). Many students will read their winning poems aloud. They will also receive a booklet of all the winning poems. Last year there were more than 60 people in the audience cheering on LVW's student poets.

Help us celebrate the next generation of creativity in our region by supporting these talented young people. If you are a teacher or you know any teachers, please refer them here to download the entry form and rules. Give more students the opportunity to experience the joy of creating and win prizes with their poems.

We will have a bookfair at Barnes & Noble again during the awards, so please save some of the books you want to purchase for then. We will receive a percentage of what you spend. Proceeds will go toward supporting our publications and programs.

We've reformatted the entry form, mainly to give entrants more room to write their information. We'd love to hear your opinion of whether or not you find the new form easier to use than the old one.
